VWAP Indicator for MT5: how to use the average market price
VWAP (Volume Weighted Average Price), or volume-weighted average price, is a popular tool for estimating where the current market is relative to the average price. In MetaTrader 5, the VWAP Indicator allows you to plot several benchmarks calculated for different periods.
The indicator is especially useful when you need to quickly assess whether the price is above or below the average price of the selected period. In practice, this helps to complement trend analysis, identify potential areas of interest, and better understand the current price position.
The VWAP indicator is presented as a tool for MT5 on IndicatorsPot.
What the VWAP Indicator shows
The main feature of the indicator is that it can be displayed simultaneously on the chartDaily, Weekly and Monthly VWAP.
This allows you to look at the market from three time horizons at once:
Daily VWAPshows the benchmark of the current day.
Weekly VWAPallows you to assess the position of the price relative to the weekly level.
Monthly VWAPgives a wider reference point and helps to see the position of the market relative to the average price of the month.
If the price is higher than VWAP, this may indicate an advantage of buyers relative to the selected period. If the price is below the line, attention can be switched to sellers. However, the fact that the price is above or below the VWAP is not an independent trading signal.

VWAP Indicator Settings
The first screenshot shows that asPrice Typeparameter setCLOSE_HIGH_LOW. This allows the indicator to use the specified type of price data when calculating.
Three main modes are also included at once:
Enable_Daily = trueEnable_Weekly = trueEnable_Monthly = true
Thus, the daily, weekly and monthly VWAPs are simultaneously displayed on the chart.
Additional levelsEnable_Level_01and may be included separately thereafter. In the settings on the screenshot for them, the periods are specified5, 13, 20, 30 and 40, however, the additional levels themselves are disabled.
This approach allows you to start with a simple configuration of the three main VWAPs, and then add additional landmarks if necessary.
How VWAP looks on the gold chart
On the screenshot withXAUUSD on M5you can clearly see how the three VWAP lines help to assess the position of the price.

VWAP Indicator on XAUUSD M5. The red line shows Daily VWAP, blue Weekly VWAP, green Monthly VWAP.
The graph shows three lines:
VWAP Dailymarked in red,VWAP Weeklyblue, andVWAP Monthlygreen. Thanks to this, the trader can quickly see how the current price is located relative to different periods.
For example, if the price is below several VWAPs at once, this shows that the current movement is below the corresponding average benchmarks. If the price returns to one of the lines, VWAP can be used as an additional area to observe the price reaction.
It is important not to perceive the line itself as a guaranteed level of support or resistance. The market may cross the VWAP several times, especially during sideways movement.
VWAP to EURUSD
The second example usesEURUSD to H1Here you can clearly see why the simultaneous display of Daily, Weekly and Monthly VWAP can be useful for analyzing a longer movement.

VWAP Indicator on EURUSD H1 with daily, weekly and monthly VWAP.
On the chart, the red line corresponds to Daily VWAP, the blue line corresponds to Weekly VWAP, and the green line corresponds to Monthly VWAP.
You can use them as a kind of price position map. For example, when the price is above Weekly and Monthly VWAP, and then adjusts to one of the lines, the trader receives an additional benchmark to analyze the continuation of the movement. If the price, on the contrary, is steadily fixed below several lines, this may indicate a weakening of the buying scenario.
VWAP is also convenient to use in conjunction with other technical analysis tools. For example, the trend direction can be estimated by the market structure, and VWAP can be used to find more interesting entry points after a correction.
How to use the VWAP Indicator for a beginner
Getting started with the indicator is as easy as possible.
1. Determine the direction of travel first.
See where the price is relative to Daily, Weekly and Monthly VWAP.
2. Compare several periods.
If the price is above all the main lines, the market looks stronger relative to the selected benchmarks. If the price is lower, the advantage may be on the side of the sellers.
3. Follow the price return to VWAP.
After a strong movement, the price may return to one of the lines. Such a correction deserves attention, especially if there is an additional technical level nearby.
4. Do not use VWAP in isolation.
It is better to combine it with support and resistance levels, candlestick models, market structure or other analysis tools.
Daily, Weekly or Monthly VWAP?
The choice depends on the trading horizon.
Daily VWAPis more suitable for assessing current intraday movement.
Weekly VWAPallows you to look at the market more broadly and use a weekly benchmark when analyzing short-term and medium-term movements.
Monthly VWAPgives an even broader context and can be useful for assessing the position of the price relative to the monthly movement.
It is not necessary to use all the lines at the same time. It's easier for a beginner to start with Daily and Weekly VWAP and then add Monthly for a broader context.

Practical approach
VWAP is better viewed not as a ready-made signal system, but asbenchmark for price analysis.
For example, a trader can determine the direction of movement on the higher timeframe, mark key levels, and then move to a shorter timeframe and see how the price behaves relative to Daily or Weekly VWAP.
This approach helps not to make a decision just because the price has crossed the line.It is much more important to assess the context: the direction of movement, the strength of the momentum, the location of key levels and the price reaction after contact with VWAP.

Important point
VWAP does not guarantee profits or predict future price movements. The indicator is a technical analysis tool and should be used together with risk management and own trading strategy.
